A Cocoa Beach Florida police officer sustained serious personal injuries after he was struck by a pickup truck while investigating a brawl outside of Cheater’s Gentleman’s Club. The officer was airlifted to Holmes Regional Medical Center’s trauma center in Melbourne, Florida. A pedestrian was also hit by the pickup and sustained personal injuries. According to news reports, both the officer and pedestrian were currently listed in stable condition.
The driver and passenger in the pickup were identified as brothers David Diemer, 29, and Douglas Diemer, 31. They have been charged with aggravated battery against a law enforcement officer, fleeing and eluding, leaving the scene of an accident causing bodily injuring and DUI. Police were initially called to the establishment to investigate an altercation. Upon arriving, officials determined that a parked car had been struck by a black pickup truck.
While conducting their investigation, the pickup returned, hitting 3 more parked vehicles, an officer and the pedestrian before speeding off. The men were finally chased down and detained. Hit-and-run accidents are highly disturbing. The fleeing driver involved in a hit-and-run accident neglects his or her duties to remain at the accident scene.
