According to the Florida Highway Patrol, two cars, an Acura Integra and a Honda Civic, and a Freightliner truck were involved in the deadly crash. The FHP says the Honda and Acura were stationary in the northbound lanes of U.S. 27 when the driver of the truck saw them, tried to stop, but could not. The truck hit both cars from behind, killing 3 passengers in the Acura Integra. Both cars’ passengers were reported to be wearing seat belts and neither drivers were suspected of driving under the influence.
According to Florida highway troopers, the crash occurred in an area along U.S. 27 that was shut-down earlier in the week for an illegal street-racing gathering. Although illegal racing is more common in Miami-Dade County, Broward County has seen its fair share of incidents.
