Leendra Glene Dasher, a 21-year-old woman, has been charged with aggravated child abuse after her 15-month-old daughter was found in a gym bag. Dasher called Jacksonville, Florida police on October 5 to report her child missing. Shortly after Dasher reported the toddler missing to local authorities, the toddler was found locked in Dasher’s car and inside an 18-by-10-by-10 inch gym bag. According to John Harrell of the Florida Department of Children and Families, the child is being cared for by relatives.
According to the police report, Dasher told police she put her daughter to bed around 11 p.m. the night before she reported her child missing; Dasher was not awaken by any mysterious noises. The report also revealed that Dasher had been alone with a child since 3 p.m. and no one else had access to the toddler. Dasher did not admit to putting the child into the bag or the car. However, Dasher was still arrested. She is being held on $150,000 bail and will be entitled to a criminal defense attorney. Leendra Dasher is entitled to defend herself against the charge aggravated child abuse. Victims of child abuse, whether physically or emotionally, can suffer lifetime consequences as a result of the abuse.
