The Jacksonville Times Union reported that a vehicle recently went into a retention pond near the First Guarantee Bank on Youngerman Circle. It was a strange accident in that the driver had dropped an item out of the vehicle and left the car running. the car kept on moving forward and the driver got back into the car. Thereafter, the accelerator was hit and the car went into the retention pond. A mother and an 8 year old child were submerged for a time period and suffered some serious injuries. An investigation will be conducted to determine what caused this accident. Was it driver error? Was there a mechanical defect? Either way, it is a tragic accident that resulted in serious injuries.
