Jacksonville, Florida – Anonymous Caller Leads Police to Live Newborn Hidden in Trash Can

A man identifying himself as “Mr. Smith” called Jacksonville, Florida police and reported that he had seen a woman leaving a newborn baby in a trash can at a shopping center on Beach Boulevard. The baby girl, who was still covered with afterbirth when she was found, was taken to a local hospital, where she is in good condition. Jacksonville police are urging anyone who is thinking of abandoning a baby to take advantage of Florida’s safe haven law, which allows people to anonymously leave babies up to seven days old at any fire station or hospital emergency room.
