WOFL Fox 35 News reported that a staff member with a Florida juvenile justice facility was arrested on charges of child abuse. Juveniles and other staff members were interviewed by the Marion County Sheriff’s Office regarding this incident. It was reported that the staff member put a juvenile in a choke hold that resulted in the juvenile becoming unconscious. As with any other type of criminal matter, the accused staff member will be entitled to the services of a criminal defense attorney on this matter whether private or public defender. As part of the criminal investigation and proceedings, the accused staff member will have the opportunity to defend his actions if there is a viable defense or excuse for his conduct. Victims, including those juveniles in detention, have constitutional rights as well and should not be subjected to harm or injury while in detention, jail, or prison.
