In Jacksonville, Florida and other cities, churches should be a safe haven for children. A place that children can learn, grow, and pray in safety and comfort. Churches should not be the site of sexual abuse and assaults, but, unfortunately, over the years, many churches have been the site of unspoken horrors and disturbing incidents. The Greek Orthodox Archdiocese recently settled a lawsuit for a confidential amount. The lawsuit was brought by a man, who is now 23 years old, and his family. The Very Rev. Nicholas T. Graff was accused of sexual assault. Graff was so infatuated with the boy that he even offered to adopt the child. Many years later, Graff was suspended from all of his church duties. The church was sued due to its alleged negligent assignment and supervision of Graff who was subject to prior abuse allgations.
