Florida County to Call Residents with Alerts of Sex Offenders Moving into the Neighborhood

Lee County, Florida is taking efforts to make sure that residents are aware of sexual offenders and sexual predators in the neighborhood. Pre-recorded telephone calls will be placed to residents when a sex offender / sex predator moves within 1/4 mile of their home. Lee County has over 500 registered sex offenders and 36 registered sex predators. The purpose of this program is to make sure that residents know about the location of sexual offenders and sexual predators and to take any necessary precautions in light of this information. It is important for parents to keep in mind that there are thousands of sexual offenders and sexual predators out there who have never been caught or who have never been convicted of their crimes. As such, parents should keep close watch and supervision of their children while in the neighborhood and beyond.
